Jim's 1964 Impala

Jim's sweet 1964 Impala arrived for some pretty cool upgrades. Scheduled for this fine automobile is a new GM crate ZZ383 Stroker, Ziggy's Pro Street T400 trans, new suspension, and a disc brake upgrade.

Jim's 64 Imp has original mileage in the low 30k range. The pictures do this car no justice. Keep an eye on this project as is getting some pretty cool goodies in it!

We know that the motor will be solid, so we have to back it up with a solid transmission. If you need a rock solid, kickin transmission, have Ziggy build one for you. Ziggy can be reached at 609-894-0151. Don't forget to tell him that your friends at The StreetRod Store sent you!

Jim pulled the motor and trans prior to delivery. This helps to keep cost down. We will degrease, sand and paint the engine compartment before we drop in the new stuff!

You can see that Craig has gotten a jump on this one. After Craig removes all of the wiring, hoses, etc., he will scrib, power wash, sand and paint the firewall and inner fenders.

The control arm bushings are shot but rest assured that they will be replaced. New stainless steel tubing for the brakes and fuel line are also part of this build.

In preparation for the new motor, trans, and rebuild of the front end, Craig completely de-greases and powerwashed the engine compartment.

Once the engine compartment was degreased, Craig solvent washed, sanded, and put a fresh coat of paint on the radiator support, inner fenders and firewall. Once the front end is rebuilt, all components will be cleaned and painted.

The right side a-arm assembly is taken apart and the components are cleaned and painted to receive the new polygraphite bushings, springs, bushings and a disc brake upgrade.

This is the upper control arm with the old bushings and ball joints removed. This will be cleaned and painted prior to installing the new bushings and ball joints.

Here she is !!  The GM Performance ZZ383 stroker arrived today. This motor delivers 425 horses with 449 lbs of torque. This shot was taken as we were pulling it out of the crate. This is one sweet motor!

Here you can see that the front disc conversion is moving along. All of the control arm bushings were replaced along with new tie rod ends. The new booster and master cylinder are installed and new stainless brake and fuel lines are being installed.

The GM crate engine delivered to us from Nu Car in Deleware gets a fresh coat of Chevy orange paint and the goodies are starting to be installed. This 64 Impala is certainly going to haul some gass! (This is a family website and profanity is not allowed)

The 2" drop spindles are installed in addition to the slotted rotors, disc brakes and a hefty front sway bar.

The motor is dropped in and the goodies are starting to be installed.

The transmission is installed and the new chrome dust cover is bolted on. Next we will be replacing the stock trans pan with a nice deep dish aluminum pan. Look how nice the stainless brake lines look running along the crossmember.

The transmission crossmember had to be relocated as the TH400 is longer than the original transmission. This is a shot of the modified crossmember before being cleaned and painted.

Here is a shot of the transmission with the modified mount bolted securely to mounts that were welded to the frame. The driveshaft was measured and is currently being built.

Engine Compartment - Here you can see how everything has come together. The GM Performance crate looks great under the hood of this fine 64!

Craig bent and installed the exhaust on Jim's 64 Impala. The exhaust is tucked between the frame and floor pan to make this very clean!
