Jack's 69 Firebird

Jack's 1969 Firebird arrives via All Call towing.

Don't let the age of the vehicle fool you . . .  this car is in great shape for the years.  Scheduled for Jack's 69 is a new motor, trans and sheetmetal where needed. Keep checking this page out for the progress.

The engine compartment is going to get a complete update. Fresh motor, trans and cleanup is planned.

The interior gets removed and the convertible top comes off. We found some problems under the top, but all can be replaced.

Here is what we found hiding under the convertible top. This section of the top will need to be replaced.

Look at the floor pans !  Have you you seen anything this nice on something this old before? These pans are original!

Getting a better look at the inside shows us that we The quarters get cut to give us a better look at what needs to be replaced. will need to order a trunk pan and some connector pieces. We will be installing new GM 69 Firebird convertible quarters that are now being produced.

We removed the L/S door to body work some dings and dents. While the door is off, we will remove the hinges and replace the hinge pin bushings. This door is ready to go back on.

The sheetmetal arrives! It was good that we waited to order the quarter panels as 69 Firebird convertible quarters are being stamped. And of course, only GM Restoration Parts will be used.

The hinges are rebuilt, rocker panel repaired, and the door hung. The next step will be to move to the L/S quarter panel.

The new L/S quarter is hung and it fits perfectly! Dropped in like it was made for the car. This 69 is beginning to take shape.

The R/S quarters are removed and everything is cleaned up to prepare for the new quarter panel.

The front end comes apart and replacement fenders are on the way. Once the rear quarters, trunk, inner and outer wheel houses are welded into place we will pull the motor and trans.

The wires will be pulled back to allow us to clean up the firewall. Keep checking back to see how things go.

This is Steve slaving away at the new trunk pans. Notice how intense he is . . .  he didn't even know I took the picture.

This is a shot of the trunk pan and extensions after they were fitted and welded into place.  Next we will clean up all of the welds, seam seal and etch prime.

The quarter panel has been fitted and set  . . .  the inner and outer wheel houses were welded into place earlier. Here is Steve welding the quarter into place. Next, we will fit and weld the other quarter panel.

The Firebird is finally back on it's feet.  We still need to fit and weld the right side quarter panel, but I think that things are progressing quite well. Craig has been removing parts from the engine and giving them a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint.
