PUSH/PULL SHUT-OFF FOR TRACK REGS

Postby CAMINO350 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 8:31 am

{waving} HEY STAN, TOM HERE , MY QUESTION IS ABOUT A PUSH/PULL SHUT-OFF SWITCH FOR MY CAMINO, I INSTALLED IT BUT IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF THE POWER TO THE CAR WHEN RUNNING AS NHRA TECH INSPECTION REQUIRES. I HAVE 10 GA. WIRE RUNNING TO ALTERNATOR FROM SWITCH AND AM USING A 3-WIRE ALTERNATOR. I READ ABOUT USING A FUSEABLE LINK IN THE CIRCUIT TO PREVENT ANY MISHAPS. CAN YOU THE WIRING GURU ,GUIDE ME TO MY DESTINY!!! LOL
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME,GREAT FORUM AND WEBSITE TOO!! TOM WELSH

Hey, Tom . . . thanks for the comments on the website and forum. It's a shame that the forum is not being used as intended and I will more than likely bring it down in the near future. I will also be bringing down thestreetrodstore.com . . . change your favorites to www.automotiverewire.com

If I understand you correctly, you are using a "kill" switch to kill the power to the camino . . . check something for me . . .

On one side of the kill switch, you should have your battery and alternator connected . . . on the other side of the switch you should have the starter. When you hit the switch, all power will be cut to the starter. Having only the alternator connected to the one side will only kill your charging circuit. Your engine will continue to run off of the battery if it is connected directly to the starter.

Hope it is as easy as that . . . have fun!
Thanks for posting . . . Stan
